I have seen these very cool tea light holders at stores and am amazed at how pricey they are. They are very easy to make and also make wonderful gifts. These instructions are for molding the concrete in a silicone mold.
Supplies:
1 cup Rapid Set Cement All (Multi purpose repair material)
(There is an affiliate link below for Rapid Set Cement from Amazon. If at all possible, the cement should be purchased from Home Depot or similar a store as the cost of shipping will not be included in the price.)
1/4 cup cold water
Large yogurt or similar container
Measuring cups
Mixing spoon
Silicone molds – one cobblestone-shaped mold
BEFORE YOU START: Rapid Set Cement All starts to set very quickly–within a couple minutes. So you first want to set out all supplies on a protected surface. Once you mix your cement and water, you want to work as rapidly as possible so you have time to pour the mixture before it begins to set.
- Set out all supplies on a protected surface.
- Measure 1 c. Rapid Set CementAll and slowly place in container.
- Measure 1/4 c. cold water and pour into container with cement.
- Mix very rapidly until all concrete is dissolved into the water. Mixture should be a semi-thick “pouring” consistency. Add an additional couple teaspoons of water if mixture it too thick. If mixture appears way too runny, add a couple teaspoons of concrete and mix well.
- Once the right consistency, pour immediately into the silicone mold. Tamp the filled molds to release any large spaces or bubbles.
- Let concrete set for 15-60 minutes until completely firm and unmold. The setting time will depend on the outside temperature and how thick your concrete mixture is.
