These concrete pots are very versatile and quite easy to make. They may be made in just about any size or shape and may be planted with succulents or other plants. They may also be used as candle holders by using the candle you would like as the center cavity. Use your imagination and look for virtually any shape of container you would like for your concrete pot!

Gather supplies for making concrete pots

  1. Set out all supplies on a protected surface.
  2. For containers that will be your exterior shape of the pot, spray the inside of containers with canola spray. For containers that will be hollowing out the interior of the pot, spray the exterior with canola spray.
  3. Measure 1 part water and pour into mixing container.
  4. Measure 3 ½ parts Quikrete Mortar Mix and gently pour into mixing container on top of water.
  5. Mix all concrete until it is dissolved into the water. Mixture should be a thick “pouring” If mixture appears way too runny, add a little dry mortar mix and mix well. If mixture appears too thick, add a little water and mix well. Make adjustments until correct consistency.

Proper consistency for concrete pots

  1. Once the right consistency, pour mixture into your exterior container until it is one-half full. Tamp the filled molds to release any large spaces or bubbles.
  2. Now take your interior mold and push it into the center of your filled exterior mold. Push down until it is where you would like it. Fill the containers with sand, water or some type of weight to the interior mold will stay in place and not pop out.

Concrete in Containers for Concrete Pots

  1. At this point, lightly tamp filled containers again and place a piece of tape over the top of the mold and going down two sides. This will help secure the interior mold in the exact placement you would like.
  2. Leave concrete molded for about 24-36 hours until concrete is set and gently unmold. The setting time will depend on the outside temperature and how thick or runny your concrete mixture was. If the pot doesn’t release fairly easily, wait a few more hours until it does.
