Our flight from Los Angeles arrived in Sydney mid-morning in early November. After the long flight, we decided what would help us stay awake for the day would be to take a walk along the beach towns of Sydney, beginning at Bondi Beach. The beach is located four miles east of the Sydney central business district. Awake we did stay.
What we found was astonishing. As we walked the coastline, we passed a very cool sculpture along the sea, then another, and another . . . until we had passed over 100 unique and artistic sculptures all along the beach!
Inquiring wherever we could, we learned “Sculpture by the Sea” was an annual event and the largest free public sculpture exhibition in the world. In 2016, it will be held again and is from October 20th through November 6th. If you are planning a trip to Sydney, it is well worth it if at all possible to plan your trip around these dates just to see this extraordinary Sculpture by the Sea exhibit. You may find additional information at www.sculpturebythesea.com.
Below are photos of some of the wonderful sculptures we passed.
